Abstract

Description

The Faculty Senate of the University of West Georgia, constituted within Academic Affairs, is the primary means through which faculty participate in the shared governance process at the University. The Faculty Senate began issuing Resolutions on a selective basis in 2008 to emphasize collective opinion of the faculty within, and in addition to, the official minutes of the organization. This resolution, titled "Resolution of the University of West Georgia Faculty Senate on Proposed Changes to the Teachers' Retirement System Cost of Living Annual Increases (COLA)," addresses a proposed change in the TRS board policy. The policy adopted in 1969 says that the TRS "shall give" its members a 1.5% COLA; the proposal is to change the language to "may give" a COLA. The faculty oppose the proposed change as a threat to the ability of the USG to recruit and retain the best faculty and staff. The Faculty Senate adopted this resolution on October 31, 2008.
