Abstract

Description

The Faculty Senate of the University of West Georgia, constituted within Academic Affairs, is the primary means through which faculty participate in the shared governance process at the University. The Faculty Senate began issuing Resolutions on a selective basis in 2008 to emphasize collective opinion of the faculty within, and in addition to, the official minutes of the organization. This resolution, titled "UWG Faculty Senate Resolution on Retaining Diverse Faculty," comes on the heels of successful diversity initiatives at UWG after the adoption of the "UWG Faculty Senate Resolution on Diversifying the Faculty from the Diversity and Internationalization Committee" about 20 months earlier. Recent hirings of diverse faculty make them "potentially vulnerable" to firing during the current budget reassessment that was necessitated based on reduced revenue projections. The resolution urges the faculty and administration to hold fast to a commitment of hiring and retaining diverse faculty as they consider budget management actions. The Faculty Senate adopted this resolution on December 6, 2019.
