Abstract
Description
The Faculty Senate of the University of West Georgia, constituted within Academic Affairs, is the primary means through which faculty participate in the shared governance process at the University. The Faculty Senate began issuing Resolutions on a selective basis in 2008 to emphasize collective opinion of the faculty within, and in addition to, the official minutes of the organization. This resolution, titled "UWG Faculty Senate Resolution on Curricular Diversity in the Core," underlines 1) the importance of inclusiveness as a core value; 2) affirms that understanding cultural differences better prepares students for their careers and citizenship; 3) states that diversity in the core curriculum helps achieve UWG strategic imperatives. It concludes: "THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of West Georgia ensure that revisions to the core curriculum require courses that engage substantially with a range of perspectives on race, class, gender, religion, nationality, ethnicity, and/or sexuality." This resolution was adopted by the Faculty Senate on January 24, 2020.
