Abstract
Plato's Allegory of the Cave shows the huge struggle in society with ignorance and enlightenment. This story shows prisoners trapped in a cave their whole lives being fed a false reality, which represents our own ignorance. Enlightenment is represented by one of the prisoners being freed but painfully adjusting to the truth of reality, showing the difficulty in challenging inherited beliefs. This is ultimately a metaphor for education, saying that education isn't merely obtaining information, but rather turning one's soul toward the truth.
