Abstract

Description

Mosaic art within the apse of the Basilica of St. Apollinare in Classe (or Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, or Saint Apollinaris in Classe), which is located in Ravenna, Italy. The upper portion of the photo shows two of the four Evangelists: Mark (a lion) and Luke (an ox) who are to the right of the central figure of Christ giving his blessing at the top center of the triumphal arch. Below Mark and Luke, six sheep advance to Christ, with the city of Bethlehem on the right. The decoration below these mosaics is within the apsidal conch, with the prophet Elijah (HbELYAS) labeled accordingly.
