Abstract

The memoir “ When Breath Becomes Air,” by Paul Kalanithi has had a profound impact on my learning experience at UWG. Paul Kalanithi was a neurosurgeon diagnosed with terminal cancer at 36. This memoir explores his journey through his pursuit of the meaning of life and death, his journey through his illness, and his dedication to medicine. His search for purpose even in the face of mortality, resonated with me because I lost my father to lung cancer my freshman year of college. This memoir inspired me to honor my father’s memory and shape a purposeful future.
