Magdala:  The "Magdala Stone" from Synagogue

A reproduction of the Magdala stone that was found on the site, this low, carved block would have held the Torah (torah stand or bimah) when it was read. The reader, in this case, would have knelt. The stone, and its date, provides insight on the role of synagogues during the period when the 2nd Temple was still standing. Around the main meeting area are low stones which served as bench seats.
