Abstract

Description

Centralized view when approaching the Basilica of St. Apollinare in Classe (or Basilica of Sant'Apollinare in Classe, or Saint Apollinaris in Classe). The bell tower is regarded as the most beautiful in Ravenna, Italy. It sports a red and yellow brick diamond design and an upward progression of narrow loopholes from two orders of mullioned windows with one opening, to one window with two openings, and finally to three windows with three openings. The basilica is an important monument of Byzantine art and is well known for its mosaic decorations, as well as housing the relics of Saint Apollinaris.
