Description
The south wall of the nave, Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo (Basilica di Sant'Apollinare Nuovo) in Ravenna, Italy. Above the arches that separate the nave from an alley is a mosaic that depicts the palace of King Theodoric. His palace was conveniently located next to the church. Above the palace mosaic, among the clerestory windows, is the second tier of mosaic decorations. This frieze features male saints (or prophets), each holding a scroll or a book. Above the male figures are 13 panels relating to Christ's Passion and Resurrection.
