A staircase inside the church of San Francesco, a major church in Ravenna, Italy. The current building and bell tower were constructed in the 10th century and were rededicated to St. Francis of Assisi in 1261. The church is famous as the site of Dante Alighieri's funeral in 1321. The staircase leads to an underground crypt--all that remains of the medieval basilica.
