Description
A view of the underground crypt at the church of San Francesco, a major church in Ravenna, Italy. The current building and bell tower were constructed in the 10th century and were rededicated to St. Francis of Assisi in 1261. The church is famous as the site of Dante Alighieri's funeral in 1321. The underground crypt is what remains of the medieval basilica. The marks of past floods are evident in the photo.
