Altar in the lowest level of the Basilica of the Annunciation. The altar reads, in Latin, "VERBUM CARO HIC FACTUM EST." It is often translated: "Here the word became flesh." The Basilica is situated on the traditional site described in Luke 1:26-38 when the angel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary and announced that she would bear a son.
