Abstract

Description

Photograph of the right lunette of the Presbytery, Basilica San Vitale (Basilica of St. Vitale; Church of Saint Vitale) in Ravenna, Italy. The sacrifices of Abel and Melchizedek are featured in the central lunette mosaic. On the support above, to the left is Moses entering the burning bush, and to the right is the prophet Isaiah. Two onyx columns divide the upper light window into thirds, with a mosaic of St. Matthew (and his symbol of a winged man) on the left and St. Mark (and his symbol of a liion) on the right.
