Abstract

Description

The Roman Catholic section of the cave system includes several altars and burial chambers associated with Jerome, Paula, and Eustochium. Here there is a twentieth century carving of a symbol that includes the Greek intersecting letters chi and rho (for Christ), along with the alpha (beginning) and omega (end). The architecture within the portion of the cave complex controlled by St. Catherine's is a combination of 1960s style and the original primitive cave system.
