Abstract
Description
A sign about the Water Gate reads: " The path that climbed to Masada from the west via the cisterns terminated at this gate. Visitors to the mountain and beasts of burden that carried water took this path to the summit of Masada. A channel starting at the gate carried water to some of the cisterns on the mountain. The stone paving of the gate was intended to prevent damage to the surface from the animals' hooves."
