Abstract

Description

According to https://www.turismo.ra.it/en/culture-and-history/religious-buildings/neonian-baptistery/: "Inside, two orders of arcades run along the walls, and a threefold decoration embellish the room: marbles in the lower part, stuccoes in the middle, and mosaics with a clear Greek-Roman influence in the higher part." In this photograph of the interior of the Baptistery of the Orthodox (Neonian Baptistery; Baptistery of Neon; Battistero Neoniano; Orthodox Baptistery; Battistero Ortodosso; Baptistry of the Cathedral), the lower order of arcade shows one of the eight marble columns in Corinthian and Ital-Byzantine style, topped with an arabesque mosaic of acanthus leaves. These columns support the arches of the lower arcade.
