Abstract

Description

An image of wall in the nave of the Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls (Rome, Italy). Mosaic medallions of the popes are illuminated in the center of the photograph, with large frescoes above between arched windows that are flanked by pilastered columns. According to https://www.christianiconography.info/sicily/paulLifeOutsideWalls.html: "In 1857-60 Pope Pius IX commissioned a series of paintings to trace Paul's life as set forth in the Acts of the Apostles. The paintings are displayed in the clerestories of the nave and transept of St. Paul Outside the Walls."
