Multiple photos are associated with this record. Please click the links to view all of the items in the series. The images are of the Pinecone Fountain (Fontana della Pigna), which is in a niche of the wall of the Vatican facing the Pinecone Courtyard (Cortile della Pigna). The bronze pinecone once spouted water from its top and originally stood near the Pantheon, then was moved during the Middle Ages, and finally to its present location in 1608. The bronze peacocks are copies of those that decorate the tomb of Emperor Hadrian; the originals are held in the collection of the New Wing (Braccio Nuovo) of the Chiaramonti Museum, which is part of the Vatican Museums. The Pinecone Fountain was undergoing renovations when these photographs were taken in 2017.
