Description
The entrance to the Basilica of San Vitale (Basilica of St. Vitale; Church of Saint Vitale) is shown on the right of this photo (white arch over door). The church was built in the 6th century and is one of the most important surviving examples of Byzantine architecture and mosaics. The bell tower, as shown in the center of the photo, was erected four centuries later.
