Jerusalem: Kidron Valley and Garden of Gethsemane

Permanent URI for this collection

The Kidron Valley defines the easternmost border of the Old City of Jerusalem. From the top of the eastern slope, one has a panoramic view of the city. As one descends into the valley, there are cemeteries as well as a plot of ground with ancient olive tress. The latter is identified as the Garden of Gethsemane at which Jesus prayed on the night of his arrest. Within the valley itself are monumental tombs dating from the Second Temple period. The photos in this collection were taken in May of 2023 and May of 2016 by Dr. Beth M. Sheppard.
